Pilar Swinson, Londyn Hall post improved times for UVI at Embry-Riddle Running Elements Classic

Daytona Beach, Florida, April 3, 2026 – The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) women's track and field team turned in a pair of notable individual improvements Friday at the Embry-Riddle Running Elements Classic, led by freshman Pilar Swinson and sophomore Londyn Hall against a large field that included more than 20 NCAA Division I, II and III programs, along with NAIA schools.

Swinson delivered one of the Lady Buccaneers' top performances in the first track event of the day, the 100-meter hurdles. Running in just her second collegiate race in the event, the freshman cut more than a second off her previous time and finished in 17.84 seconds. Hall also posted a strong improvement in the 100 meters, lowering her time from 12.87 to 12.67.

Hall placed fourth in her heat and finished 47th overall out of 83 runners in the 100. Swinson finished 31st overall in the 100 hurdles, giving UVI two encouraging results in a meet that drew deep competition at the Embry-Riddle Track and Field Complex.

The Lady Buccaneers were also set to have senior Aisha Sabur make her season debut in the women's long jump, but she was scratched prior to competing in the event. Even so, UVI came away with measurable progress from two of its returning competitors, with both Swinson and Hall showing improvement early in the outdoor season.

Friday's meet in Daytona Beach provided another test for the Lady Buccaneers as they continue building toward the championship portion of the schedule. UVI now shifts its focus to the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for April 30 through May 2 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
