UVI Sports Information Director Shaquille Richardson Among Top Finishers in NAIA Publication Contest

ST. THOMAS, VIRGIN ISLANDS, June 29, 2025 – Shaquille Richardson, the Sports Information Director at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), was among the top finishers in the Motion Graphics category of the 2025 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Sports Information Directors Association (SIDA) Publications & Media Contest. The list of award winners was announced by the NAIA national office on Monday, June 9.

"It's always a great feeling to be recognized for your work like this, especially nationally," said Richardson. "With only a few years in this profession, this wasn't something that I expected at this time. I'm still shocked. However, this is an accomplishment that I am extremely proud of, and it serves as a renewed source of motivation for my future in collegiate athletics.

The Publications and Media Contest included various categories ranging from Writing to Graphics, Video Content, and Gameday Deliverables. All NAIA member institutions were allowed to enter, with each institution restricted to three entries per contest category. Out of 237 eligible NAIA institutions, Richardson and UVI secured a commendable position in the Top 10 for the Motion Graphics category, which includes video-embedded photos. These dynamic images are utilized on social media platforms, enhancing engagement through visually compelling content. UVI was the only school in the HBCU Athletic Conference to be recognized.

"I am so proud of Shaquille for having his work nationally recognized," said UVI Director of Athletics Dr. Karen Carty. "He works tirelessly to promote UVI Athletics and has put in the time to grow his social media management skills, including graphic design. Shaquille being honored in this way speaks to the high quality of his work and his commitment to ensuring that Buccaneer Athletics sets the standard for peer institutions."

Richardson has recently completed his second year as the Sports Information Director at UVI and is poised to enter his third year in the upcoming fall semester. His dedication and innovative approach to sports information has not only elevated UVI's presence in the collegiate athletics community but has also set a standard for excellence within the field.
